§ 2.114.030. Function of council.

  • The council exists to facilitate the protection of human rights and equality of opportunity by educating the community about the value of cultural and ethnic diversity. The council is authorized to take the following actions in accomplishing this function:

    A.

    Education Program.

    1.

    Develop and coordinate programs celebrating ethnic and cultural diversity suitable for local schools;

    2.

    Form a speakers' bureau for service and community club programs which shall provide speakers on current topics concerning ethnicity, cultural diversity and human rights;

    3.

    Prepare newspaper columns to appear at regular intervals which shall express concerns of ethnic and cultural minorities and comments on human rights issues;

    4.

    Take other actions intended to increase public awareness of ethnic and human rights issues.

    B.

    Support of Ethnic and Cultural Activities.

    1.

    Maintain a calendar for ethnic events occurring throughout the community and facilitate support for such events;

    2.

    Sponsor booths at community events;

    3.

    Take other actions in support of ethnic and cultural activities.

    C.

    Forum for Interaction. Provide an arena for interaction among specific groups for airing of specific issues.
